TIFTON — In addition to the water system funding allocated for the City of Tifton, the Georgia Rural Center has assured that the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College is slated to receive funding for a new water system.

As part of a three-part project targeting three rural areas in Georgia, Gov. Brian Kemp has awarded a total of $1.1 million of American Rescue Plan funding to the towns of Tifton, Parrott and Warthen for use in improving their water and wastewater systems.

The Georgia Rural Center aided in coordinating and organizing these three projects and ensuring the three communities received the funding they needed.

“We are pleased and grateful to have received funding for these projects that will positively impact quality of life for people in these rural communities,” Georgia Rural Center Interim Director David Bridges said. “We thank not only Gov. Kemp and those who assisted him in selecting projects for funding, but also those individuals from across the state who helped the Rural Center team craft the proposals we submitted.”

Parrott and Warthen will direct their fund towards supporting their cities but Tifton will use it to providing for their local college, officials said.

ARPA funding allocated for Tifton is scheduled to completely renovate the ABAC campus water system, which will include the construction of a new well and water tower.
