TIFTON — The Tift County swim teams’ Ducktona 300 may need to become its own official sport.

Crowds continue to rise for the annual event, which took place Nov. 3 at the Baldwin Drive Aquatic Center.

Head coach Ivey Vickers said the 2022 Ducktona was “Probably the best we’ve ever had.” The final dollar amounts from the auction and race have not been calculated, but early figures almost assure it will be its highest amount.

Heather Crumley won the $10,000 prize, which sees 300 of the little yellow wonders swim from one end of the pool to the other. Helping to guide this paddling of ducks were Ava Wilson and Kendall Sasser. Sasser is a veteran of duck shepherding, having been one of the guides in 2021.

Preceding the race was a silent auction, which featured the most items yet, Vickers said. More than 100 donations were up for bid, ranging from baked goods to Tift athletic gear, to gift certificates to blankets, dental care items, cornhole boards and a firepit with a Tift logo.

More than 100 individuals or businesses donated items for the auction, Vickers said. She thanked everyone who donated and/or gave back to the program.
