Blue Devils wrestling teams have successful weekend

TIFTON — Tift County wrestlers continue to put on a show in 2022-23.
For the weekend of Dec. 9-10, middle school, junior varsity and varsity wrestlers were at tournaments all over the state, from Jackson County to Cook.

The middle school won their event at Jackson County, the Baby Panther Invitational, with nine wrestlers advancing to the finals. Thirteen teams from across Georgia sent representatives.
Overall the middle school Blue Devils, won three gold medals, six silvers and six more bronze medals. Coach Rayder Schemmel relayed he was proud of his squad. Nineteen wrestlers made the trip north.
Tift’s junior varsity went to Jackson County as well, with 19 teams participating in their tournament.
With a spartan crew because of illness, seven young Blue Devils placed. One wrestler earned 1st place, with six more runners-up, four finishing 3rd and three in 4th place. The Lady Devils also wrestled well, with one 1st place, one 6th place and one 7th.
The varsity Blue Devils went to Cook for the Hornet Duals.
Overall the team finished 2nd, with only Coffee besting them, that being by a mere two points.
