TIFTON — When municipalities of the Atlanta area needed firefighting support, Tift County Fire Department answered the call – something county leaders praised.

County Manager Jim Carter took a moment during the Jan. 3 Tift County Commission meeting to recognize the efforts of the county fire department in supporting the North Georgia area during the recent cold snap.

Carter said the cold weather had frozen the water systems of many North Georgia municipalities.

To help them be ready to fight fires, the Georgia Mutual Aid Group requested assistance from South Georgia counties, including Tift.

Tift County’s Tanker 58 and personnel were sent north to provide help where they could, stationing with Forest Park.

Carter said the tanker and firefighters assisted the fire department with putting out a structure fire Dec. 28, providing water to the firefighters to quell the flames.

The county manager expressed his pride not only for efforts of the fire department in supporting Forest Park but also the county for helping the city.
