Tift County wins two more from Thomas County Central

THOMASVILLE — Tift County basketball teams achieved another Region 1-6A sweep Friday, Jan. 27. The Blue Devils and Lady Devils both defeated Thomas County Central.
The Lady Devils won 51-50. The Blue Devils smashed the Yellow Jackets, 66-36.

Tommy Blackshear, head coach of Tift’s boys, said his team was up 39-14 at halftime.
“We were great on defense again,” he said in a text message. “I’m very proud of our defensive effort tonight.”
It was a balanced scoring attack for the Devils. Christian Jones scored 11 points, with McKyler Horne at 10, Kobe Farrie at 8 and Will Clark at 7. Jason Cody Morris and Davis Byrnes contributed 6 points each.
Julie Conner’s Lady Devils scored an uncharacteristic 2 points in the 1st quarter, but rebounded for 15 in the 2nd.
After scoring 29 points through three frames, they exploded for 22 in the 4th for the final one-point margin.
Jimmya Cushion’s 17 points led the way. Jimeylah Cushion joined her in double-digits at 10. O’ashia Cushion scored 9 points and Faith Hillmon netted 8.
Tift was slated to play non-region games at Sumter County Saturday.
