Hoops teams sweep Sumter

AMERICUS — Tift County basketball won twice over Sumter County Saturday, Jan. 28, their second sweep in as many nights.
A day after a close girls win at Thomas County Central and a blowout by the boys, the roles were reversed. The Lady Devils thumped Sumter, 70-24. The Blue Devils edged the Rams, 41-40, The score by quarters on MaxPreps shows a close game throughout, with Tift up 23-21 at halftime.

It was the 15th victory of the year for the Lady Devils, 14th for the Blue Devils.
Julie Conner’s Lady Devils were up 44-12 at the break. A 58-19 advantage at the end of the 3rd gave them yet another shortened 4th period via the mercy rule.
Three players finished in double-digits for Tift, with Jimmya Cushion leading the way with 18 points. O’ashia Cushion scored 12 points — all in the 1st half — and Faith Hillmon netted 10 points.
Tyler Parker led a very balanced team of Blue Devils against Sumter. Parker scored 7 points, with Kobe Farrie and Davis Byrnes contributing 6 points apiece. Jason Cody Morris, Will Clark and McKyler Horne each added 5 points for the total.
Tift led 23-21 at halftime, 37-31 after three quarters.
