TIFTON — A three-year passion project has breathed new life into Downtown Tifton.

Dr. Margaret Richardson-Nixon and Dr. Cameron Nixon recently celebrated the opening of their new apartment complex, Towne Center Lofts, bringing “comfortable and modern living” to Downtown Tifton.

What was once a rundown building on the corner of 5th and Main across from Railway Furniture has been refurbished into seven sleek apartments, ranging from one to three bedrooms, nestled right on the edge of the city’s downtown area.

Though not native to the area, the Nixons said they are proud to revitalize a section of the city that they have come to love.

“When we moved here, we really fell in love with Downtown Tifton,” Dr. Richardson-Nixon said. “It was a great downtown, going through a lot of revitalization. We wanted to be a part of that process, so we were actively looking for a building that we could purchase and invest in.”

The couple purchased the building in 2017 but did not begin renovations on the property until two years later. Richardson-Nixon said construction was significantly slowed as a result of the pandemic.

Ultimately, their hard work led them to opening day, which they celebrated in full swing with plenty of members of the community and a commemorative toast to welcome their new establishment to the city.

Following this project, Richardson-Nixon expressed an interest in revitalizing other buildings in Downtown Tifton in the future.
