TIFTON — A Tift man and an Ashburn man were each convicted in separate violent crime cases, according to the district attorney.

Francisco Garcia Jr. was found guilty by a Tift County jury on all counts in an indictment for aggravated child molestation and other crimes, according to a Tifton District Attorney’s statement.

Tifton Circuit Judge Bill Reinhardt sentenced Garcia to 25 years in prison without possibility of parole followed by life on probation, court officials said.

Assistant Tifton District Attorney Kim Schwalls prosecuted the case. The Tift County Sheriff’s Department investigation was led by Jason Barber. Latricia Sumner assisted the victims through the process of trial and Melissa Luke, DA investigator, was “instrumental in bringing the matter to trial,” according to the DA statement.

Meanwhile, a Turner County jury convicted Marcus Moore of Ashburn on an indictment for armed robbery, kidnapping and aggravated assault, court officials said.

Tifton Circuit Judge Melanie Cross sentenced Moore to 25 years in prison followed by 10 years on probation, court officials said.

Assistant Tifton District Attorney Sandra Guest presented the case. Jerry Davis of the Ashburn Police Department led the investigation. Jodie Spooner provided victim’s services and DA investigator Leslie Bailey was “instrumental in the prosecution’s efforts,” according to the DA office.

“In both these cases, we commend the jurors for their commitment to the cause of justice and service to our community and circuit,” Tift District Attorney Bryce Johnson said in a statement. “We know that these verdicts will never take away the suffering of the victims and their loved ones but we hope it will give them some amount of peace that these violent felons have been brought to justice.”
