TIFTON — Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will be looking for a new golf coach next year after Larry Byrnes stepped down this week.

“I’ve been here nine years and it’s been an amazing good run,” Byrnes said in a statement. “Going to seven national tournaments and finishing 6th in the country once and 10th another year has been quite a privilege.”

With Adam Park earning 2nd team All-American, the 2018 team was 6th in the nation. Byrnes actually had two 10th places, one in 2016 and the other in 2019. Brock Barber earned All-American for the Stallions in 2022 and Park earned an additional second team selection in 2019.

Tyler White was an honorable mention All-American in 2020, as was Will Bozeman in 2019.

“With the strides we made with the program and the accomplishments we have achieved, I’m extremely proud,” said Byrnes, “but what I am proud of the bond I was able to forge with players and the families of the kids that came through the program. As a coach, you hope to have an impact on your players’ lives and from the texts and phone calls I have received from current and former players, that has been achieved.”

He went with Hagen Marion and Stewart Rustin to the 2023 NJCAA national championship.

In addition to outstanding links play, ABAC golf under Byrnes has been very strong in the classroom. Last year, the Stallions were 3rd nationally in GPA at 3.68.

Byrnes said he is “forever grateful” for his run at ABAC. He thanked his wife, Janet, for being at his side and the staff and personnel at ABAC, as well as the staff and members of Spring Hill Country Club.
