TIFTON — Tift County continues to work on improving Puckett Park, now covering the purchase of new equipment.

Tift County Commission unanimously moved to purchase new playground equipment at its Aug. 14 meeting to be installed as part of the park’s improvement project.

At the previous meeting Aug. 8, Tim Petrea, county recreation director, had requested the purchase of the equipment, recommending Play South Burke as the contractor.

Petrea said Play South had proposed a bonded rubber turf and more accessible equipment than the other bidders, both of which Petrea felt made the contractor the best choice for the job.

Though Tift County Commission Chairman Tony McBrayer was concerned about the life expectancy of the turfing, Petrea assured him that, while the rubber would need to be reworked after a five-year period, it would easily last more than 10 years.

Petrea said the renovation of Puckett Park is underway, beginning with the remodeling of the basketball courts. The improvements to the playground were expected to be done near the end of the project’s timeline.
