TIFTON — Qualifications for the upcoming municipal election have come to a close, locking in who will be running for positions on the Tifton City Council.

The election qualifications closed the afternoon of Aug. 25, with only three candidates making the grade – one for each of the three open positions on City Council.

Of those positions, two of the candidates are the incumbents, with Mayor Julie Smith seeking reelection and Councilmember M. Jay Hall intending to continue serving as the District 4 representative.

New candidate Michael Franks will be the only one running for City Council District 2, aiming to fill the position held by Vice Mayor Jack Folk, who announced his plans to retire from the seat in July.

Elections will be held Nov. 7.
