VALDOSTA — Schools throughout southern Georgia will remain closed Thursday, Aug. 31, in the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia.

Announced closures:

— Berrien County

— Brooks County

— Cook County

— Echols County

— Georgia Christian

— Highland Christian

— Lanier County

— Lowndes County

— Valdosta city

— Valdosta State

— Valwood

— Wiregrass Georgia Technical College

Both Echols County and Highland Christian announced on social media they will remain closed until Sept. 5 because of power outages and downed trees.
