TIFTON — The Tift County Commission on Children and Youth will be celebrating Go Light Up Your World Day with the county once again this year, and has received backing from both the city and county governments.

Both the city council and county board of commissioners pledged their support to the youth support commission at their Oct. 9 meetings in proclaiming Oct. 18 as Go Light Up Your World Day, their annual event encouraging local residents to express their solidarity for the youth of Tift County.

The evening of Oct. 18, organizations, churches, businesses, and homes across the county will be dotted with luminaries pledging support to improving the lives of the youth of the area.

This will mark the ninth year the Commission on Children and Youth have organized the program.

During the city council meeting, Lillie McIntyre, executive director for the commission, announced that they had gathered the support of over 125 business and organizations, and encouraged those in attendance to participate as well.

Representatives of the commission were presented with a certificate at both meetings, commemorating the proclamation and indicating the full support the county commissioners and city council members offered them.
