TIFTON — A new restaurant has made its home in Tifton–one that carries a special meaning for its owner.

Southern soul and seafood restaurant 587 Bistro celebrated its grand opening Oct. 25 with the help of the local chamber of commerce and a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Attendees of the celebration were treated to sweets and refreshments, as well as a tour of the restaurant prior to their official opening to the public the following weekend.

“I’ve been here now for about 6 months, trying to get this together,” said Regina Smith, owner. “It’s finally coming together, and everything looks good to me.”

Smith brings a wealth of experience running restaurants with her into this new endeavor, with her newest spot in Tifton marking her third dining opening and second named the 587 Bistro.

This name is derived from May 1987, the birthday of her son, who was murdered in 2014. She hopes to carry on his memory through these twin restaurants.

Smith also hopes that her new location in Tifton will give her a chance to get involved with the new community, and has plans to become involved as a sponsor for Tifton’s children.

587 Bistro is located at 1005 W 8th St, and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday and Monday from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. For more information, contact (478) 321-3795.
