TIFTON — A new grant from the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency will go towards helping the city better prosecute gang activity.
At the conclusion of their Nov. 20 meeting, city manager Emily Beeman announced that Tifton had recently been awarded a grant from GEMA/HS to a tune of $60,000 to help them combat rising gang activity in the city.

The city has been working on curtailing gang presence in the city for some time, including a recent set of training courses educating their police officers on how to spot and handle gang activity.
Beeman reported that the police would also be handling the usage of the grant funds, as chief of police Steve Hyman aimed to collaborate with the local district attorney’s office to adequately prosecute instigators of gang activity in Tifton.
