TIFTON — Tifton city council has granted waivers on distance requirements to two local pharmacies, allowing them to operate low THC dispensaries despite their location.

Council members unanimously approved the requests for these waivers from Friendly City Pharmacy, located at 1202 US 41, and Tifton Drug Company, located at 602 Love Avenue, during their Dec. 11 meeting, giving the two pharmacies free reign to start selling low THC products in their establishments.

State distance requirements mandate that low THC dispensaries cannot be located within 1000 feet of a school, early care facility, or religious institution, as explained at the council’s Dec. 4th meeting by planning and zoning director Crystal Gaillard.

Both businesses were located near churches at distances well below this minimum requirement, but have been allowed to operate their dispensaries regardless thanks to these waivers.

The newly permitted dispensaries will offer a wide range of low-THC products, including lozenges, topical cream, and tinctures, but the pharmacy owners assured the council that they would only be selling these products and not the plant itself.
