Tift tennis wins two over Houston County

TIFTON — Tift County tennis teams posted two more wins for the 2024 season, sweeping Houston County Thursday, Feb. 15.

The Blue Devils won over Houston, 4-1, with the Lady Devils squeezing by, 3-2.

Tift’s boys won two singles matches and both doubles. All of the victories were in straight sets.

Anna Lupo came back to win a third set at No. 2 singles, helping put the Lady Devils over the top. Lupo earned her first set, 6-2, but saw the count evened at the end of the second, 1-6. She won the third set, and the match, 6-3.

Riley Griffin had the other singles victory, 6-2, 6-3. Kenyaria Morrow and Madison Garner won at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 6-1.

In other Lady Devils matches, Scout Saturday fell, 2-6, 2-6, and Perrin Turner and Kate Carpenter dropped their match, by close scores of 4-6, 5-7.

Matthew Layfield and Tyson Lasseter won, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Ross Peters and Seth Denham combined for a 6-2, 6-0 victory.

Maitrey Patel had a very similar win at No. 1 singles, with sets of 6-0, 6-2. Joshua Hellman was a victor at No. 2 singles at 6-1, 6-2. Elijah Hellman dropped his singles match, 3-6, 2-6.
