DEVILS WIN AGAIN: John Dorman throws five spotless innings at Thomasville Tuesday night in Tift County’s 14-0 victory against the Bulldogs.

BRUNSWICK — The Tift County Blue Devils had another run-rule victory at Baseball at the Beach, but dropped their first game of the year.

Woodstock felled the Blue Devils by a 5-2 score. Tift rebounded with a 12-0 win later Saturday over Benedictine.

Tift never led against Woodstock. They closed to 2-1 and 3-2, but the Wolverines posted two insurance runs in the 7th.

Mac Brooks had two hits for the Devils. Only one player, John Dorman, drove in a run. Dorman and Ty Dorden scored Tift’s tallies.

Seven big runs in the opening frame were more than enough for TiCHS against Benedictine’s Cadets, tagging the first pitcher they saw for six earned against only one out.

For good measure, the Devils tacked on four more in the 3rd and one in the 4th.

At the top of the order, John Davis had three hits in three at-bats, driving in three runs. He scored twice. Brady Moretz knocked in two, as did Landon Parrish.

Tyler VanSumeren scored three times, and Parrish twice, with single runs coming from Luke Ellerbee, Brooks, Dorman, Moretz and Dorden.

Ryan Whitley earned the ‘W’ on the mound, VanSumeren also pitching an inning.

The Blue Devils added another big win Tuesday, scalding Thomasville 14-0 on the road. Already up big, Tift pulled away with eight runs in the top of the 7th.

VanSumeren drove in three runs, with two RBIs each for Tyler Holmes, Parrish and Brooks. Brooks had three hits.

John Dorman threw five innings of two-hit ball.

Tift was to travel to Thomasville Tuesday before hosting the Bulldogs Thursday at 5 p.m.

Saturday, TCHS hosts Yulee, Florida, at 12:30 p.m., part of a big weekend of baseball at Devil Diamond.
