Burgess, Williams win at Alice Coachman Invitational

ALBANY — Tift County won two events Saturday at the Alice Coachman Invitational in Albany, with both boys and girls pacing in the top five.

Bailee Williams won the shot put and Antonio Burgess won the 300 hurdles

Burgess’ time was 42.23 seconds, allowing him to win by less than one-tenth of a second. Teammate Jordan Gaskins was fourth in the same event in 45.7 seconds. Tyrique Williams gave Tift three runners in the top 10.

Williams’ distance was 36-5. Trinity Parker was sixth in the same at an even 29 feet.

Tift teams will be home Wednesday for their first quad meet of the season, though a few more than four teams are be on the track.

The Blue Devils were fourth in Albany at 34 points and the Lady Devils took fifth with 41, according to results on MileSplit.

Ava Wilson had the Lady Devils’ best finish on the track, second in the mile run in 6:13.

Nairobi Graham and Jalon Miller both earned fourth in their 400-meter dash, a time of 1:02.95 for Graham and 52.64 seconds for Miller.

Graham placed ninth in the girls 200-meter dash.in 28.27 seconds and Aric Wilson was 10th for the boys in 23.79 seconds. Aziyah Lockett was fifth in the 100 hurdles in 18.89 seconds, with Gaskins fifth in the 100 at 17.96 seconds.

Illianna Cleveland was sixth in the 800 at 2:44. Owen Davies placed seventh in the 1,600 at 5:01. Lola Reynolds had a sixth-place time in the 3,200 at 14:40, Russ Benton doing the same in 10:46.

In relays, both boys and girls were fifth in the 4×400.
