Barrett throws no-hitter, Fillies have homer spree at East Georgia

TIFTON — Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s Fillies split a pair of softball doubleheaders this week. Monday saw Georgia Highlands take two games in Tifton, but ABAC bounced back Tuesday with two road wins over East Georgia State, which included a no-hitter by Kaylee Barrett.
Scores against Highlands were 5-4 and 13-5. They bounced back with a 14-0 thumping of the Lady Bobcats, followed by a 9-5 score.

ABAC returns home Thursday for yet another doubleheader, this time against South Georgia State. The first game is at 3 p.m. The Fillies are 17-11 overall, 4-4 in Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association competition to be tied for fourth place.
Tuesday’s opener at East Georgia lasted a mere five innings.
Barrett struck out five. Two walks prevented a perfect game.
ABAC’s bats thundered in Swainsboro; the Fillies hit five long balls, including two each by Carter Gore and Ashley Archibald. Dylana Barton hit the other homer. Gore drove in six runs — a blast in the 5th was a grand slam — and Archibald had three RBIs.
Gore also delivered an RBI double and ABAC had 13 hits total.
The Fillies were hot early in the 9-5 game, scoring five times in the 2nd frame. They bashed three more homers, another by Barton and from Alli Eidson and Lexi Metts. Barton drove in four runs.

Four runs by Georgia Highlands in the 7th cost the Fillies in the first game Monday. Until then, they had been nursing a lead.
Barton homered and drove in two runs. Eidson and Ava Roland provided the other ABAC scores, with Laney McGee, Peighton Capwell and Akayla Matthews crossing home.
Seven runs by Highlands n the 4th put the second game out of reach. The visitors had opened with a five-run 1st.
McGee had three hits and drove in a run. Metts scored twice.
