TIFTON — Moon’s Pharmacy has stated they will be selling their location and business to Friendly City Pharmacy at the start of April.

In the wake of owner Cynthia Moon’s retirement, Tifton’s oldest independent pharmacy will be turning ownership and operation over to Friendly City owners Lucas and Christina Brown April 1.

The store is expected to be converted into a second location for the pharmacy but will retain all staff and services to best serve the community, as reported by Claire Moon, Moon’s Pharmacy marketing and design director.

“Same great staff, same location, same service, the community gains two locations for convenience, and that local community-based care,” Claire Moon said. “We’re very excited that Lucas and Christina will be able to continue this legacy of personalized care.”

Moon’s Pharmacy has operated for nearly a century under different names and owners. It first opened in the 1920s as My Drug Company, then changed hands to become Wright’s Drug Store #2 and Rainer’s Pharmacy before being purchased by Morgan Moon, Cynthia’s late husband, and becoming the pharmacy it’s known as today in 1971.

In a post on the business’s Facebook page, Cynthia Moon expressed how grateful she was to have supported her local community for so long and have them in turn support her family’s business, and she said she’s proud to be passing the torch over to the Browns to carry on the pharmacy’s legacy.
