Miller, Cushion earn All-State

Jalaya Miller is goes almost horizontal on a foul on an attempted jumper. Miller made both from the stripe and had 15 points total.

ATLANTA — Jimmya Cushion and Jalaya Miller picked up more end-of-season honors Thursday. Both were named to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution All-State honorable mention team for Class 6A.

The duo, both juniors, helped lead Tift to its first elite eight appearance since 2013 this year.

Head coach Julie Conner-Johnson said she was so excited about the honor for Miller and Cushion that she woke both up during spring break with a phone call to tell them.

The AJC’s 6A list included several players Tift saw during the season. Gabby Minus of Veterans earned first team. Three River Ridge athletes earned first or second team. Martin Davis of Glynn Academy was also honorable mention.

Player of the Year went to Marist’s Kate Harpring, who squared off against the Lady Devils in 2022. Marist won the state championship in 2023.
