She will be accepting the position from Dr. Jerry Baker, who had been serving as the interim principal for the high school.
Johnson previously served as the principal of Northeast Middle School and assistant principal of Tift County High, and taught middle school math and coached cheerleading for Tift County Schools before moving into administrative roles.
During the meeting, Johnson noted the hefty responsibility she would be accepting in the new position, but expressed her eagerness to step into her new role and support the students, staff, and faculty of Tift County High to the best of her ability.
“We are required, every single day, to give our best efforts towards providing memorable learning experiences, engaging learning opportunities, guidance and next steps in regards to post-secondary options, social and emotional guidance, and doing that in a safe environment that’s conducive to learning,” Johnson said. “We have a whole lot required of us, and I’m excited to take that journey along with the people of Tift County High School.”
The newly named high school principal also thanked the faculty of Northeast, a handful of whom were present at the meeting, for giving her the support to get to this point during her time at the middle school.
Johnson will begin her tenure as Tift County High’s principal at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year.
