CHULA — Tiftarea Academy head to Terrell Academy Friday hopeful of reversing a baseball result from earlier in the week.

Terrell edged ahead of the Panthers in the GIAA District 3-AAA standings Tuesday, courtesy of a 7-6 win. The Panthers scored two in the bottom of the 7th and had a runner in scoring position, but the visitors were able to hold on for the final out.

The loss was Tiftarea’s first to a conference opponent all season and the Panthers are now 6-1. The Eagles rose to 7-2.

Thursday’s game wraps up the district for Terrell, but Tiftarea still has two games to go because of earlier rainouts. If the Panthers win Friday, they could win 3-AAA next week against Valwood — at home on April 22 — and at Southland Academy April 24.

The first round of state is set for April 29-30. Monday’s MaxPreps power rankings saw the Panthers leap to fourth place. A strong finish could possibly give the locals a first round tournament bye, which goes to the top four schools.

Asher Cox and Lane Cole drove in 7th inning runs Tuesday, scoring John Jackson and Landon Clark (running for Winston Lamb)

The Panthers had no problems pounding out hits against Terrell, with 11 total, two each by Jackson, Lamb and Robert Garner. Both of Jackson’s hits were doubles and he was responsible for two RBIs.

Cole, Lamb and John Michael White pitched for Tiftarea, whose record is now 14-7-1.

The tie came over the weekend, 6-6 in a special game for Tiftarea against Campbell High of Smyrna at Truist Park. Jackson Parrish had two hits against the Spartans and Garner struck out four.

Last week, the Panthers swept Deerfield-Windsor, 8-6 and 7-6.

White picked up the win in Albany, which saw Tiftarea score four in the 7th to win. Cole and Garner had the big hits, Cole’s double tying the contest before Garner’s single put them ahead.
