Blue Devils up to No. 2 in poll

ATLANTA — Tift County’s Blue Devils rose to second in Thursday’s Score Atlanta Class 6A baseball poll.
The Devils, 23-5 overall, only trail Houston County. Houston’s Bears won the season series over Tift, but the Blue Devils finished No. 1 in Region 1-6A with a 13-2 record to Houston’s 12-3.

Tift County is scheduled to close the regular season at 5 p.m. Friday against Schley County. The Wildcats, who won a 2-1 decision against Tift earlier this week, are 22-3 and went undefeated in Class’s Division II, Region 3.
The Blue Devils rebounded from Schley Wednesday with a 10-3 win over First Presbyterian Day, one of the GIAA’s top schools. Ryan Whitley picked up the win, fanning six batters for his sixth victory. Ty Dorden drove in two.
Over in Region 4, there is currently a logjam in the standings. St. Pius X, Dunwoody and North Atlanta all have 12 region wins, with Dunwoody upsetting Marist on Tuesday and Riverwood pulling a mild upset over St. Pius. Both were to play again Thursday.
North Atlanta finished its region schedule with a sweep over South Cobb.
The fourth seed from Region 4 faces Tift.
