TIFTON — Tift County Schools’ sporting events will look a bit different for 2024-25,, but in a direction off the field. May 30 the system announced it will have a clear bag policy at its athletic events.
“The safety of our fans, staff and student-athletes is our main priority,” said athletic director Chris Martin in a Tift Schools press release. “This has become a standard around the state and our new policy is comparable with other schools in our region.”

Permitted are plastic or vinyl clear bags with handles, as well as one-gallon resealable clear bags. Exceptions are made for a small clutch bag — approximately the size of a hand — as well as a diaper bag if a child of age to require a diaper bag is present.
Not permitted are large purses, book bags, fanny packs, briefcases, coolers and camera bags.
All bags are subject to search at the gates, including clutch bags. No items can be left at the gates for pickup later.
“This policy provides our security staff with greater visibility for items being brought into our facilities” said Mark Wynn, System Security Director in the release. “The decision to create a clear bag policy was made after careful consideration and discussion among school and district staff. Ultimately, the goal is to create a safer environment.”
