TIFTON — It is championship week for baseball in the Georgia Recreation and Park Association.

For Tift County’s 10U All-Star baseball team, it is a chance achieve a goal at state that it came up just short in accomplishing in district two weeks ago — win a championship.

Tift County’s 10U live pitch team finished runner-up at the district championship in Thomasville. It will return to Thomasville this week, vying for the state crown in the double-elimination tournament.

“It has been a pleasure coaching and watching these young men work their way to the 10U state playoffs,” said coach Adam Davis. “We started out as individual baseball players but have come together as a baseball team. I know all of our coaches have had a blast working with these guys. We have a great team that has worked very hard to represent Tift County. We hope to bring home a state title and no matter what, if we fall short, these young men have had fun playing baseball.”

Tift County opened the tournament on Wednesday at 2 p.m. against the winner of Glynn County and Gainesville. With a win, Tift County will play again on Thursday at 2 p.m., but if it lost on Wednesday, it will play immediately again at 4 p.m. later that day.

This year’s team includes Finn Bennett, Easton Brown, Logan Davis, John Michael Dove, Holder Fleck, Mark Garren, Isaac Graham, Wells Grubbs, Carlton King, Tyson Lundy, Maddox Pate, Reid NeSmith, Rhiggs Robinson, Cash Story and Isaiah Wheeler.

This year’s team is coached by Davis, Chad Robinson, Allen Pate and Kyle Fleck.

Tift County defeated Worth County 20-0, Thomasville 13-1 and Crisp County 10-2 before losing to Thomasville 8-7 and 12-4 in the district championship.
