BOSTON- Small town Boston, Georgia, is about to get the Hollywood treatment from Emmy award-winning writer and director Dario Harris, as he begins filming a documentary-style film on the life and history of the Ham family.

According to sound engineer and producer Delbert Grush, Harris is a descendant of James and Bessie Oliver-Ham of Boston and was entrusted with their legacy. He is now using that honor to tell his family’s story.

The documentary feature film, “Legacy of Land,” will be a historical piece told in anecdotal format as Harris reconnects with the land his family once owned.

The Hams were a black couple who reportedly amassed over 400 acres of land during the height of Prohibition, Civil Rights efforts, and the Jim Crow South. On their land, they were known for hosting gatherings with both black and white neighbors in their home. These gatherings also included James’ homemade moonshine, which he was known for selling to local policemen and county officials.

“This experience was unheard of during that time,” Grush said. “Dario is proud of this heritage and the community his family helped create, though.”

Throughout the documentary, Harris will dissect the complexities of race relations, ownership, and his family’s legacy, while diving deep into Boston’s history books.

“We really hope this inspires others to track down where they came from and learn their family’s roots,” Grush concluded.
