TIFTON — Tifton city council members greenlit a rezoning request permitting the development of a laundromat at 2 Bill Street at their meeting Monday.
The application, coming from landowner Parth Alisa, will see the property in question rezoned from Residential 8 to General Business to allow Alisa to proceed with his planned development.

At the council’s previous meeting July 15, Loretta Hylton, city planning and zoning administrator, explained that Alisa hoped to construct the laundromat for the residents of the several mobile homes around the specified area, as they had been requesting such a development for some time.
Hylton also noted that the property was adjacent to a parcel also owned by Alisa that was zoned General Business, possessing a market and cafe, and that the Planning and Zoning committee had recommended approval.
Council members opened a public hearing on the request at last week’s meeting, but there were no statements made for or against the development.
Only three city council members were present for their most recent meeting, as M. Jay Hall was indisposed and mayor Julie Smith was unable to attend, but the available members voted unanimously in favor of the rezoning request.
