VALDOSTA — Gas prices in South Georgia remained largely unchanged over the past week, in line with state and national trends.
The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline Friday in Valdosta was $3.31, the same as seven days earlier, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

The lowest price reported Friday in the Azalea City was $3.09 per gallon at a St. Augustine Road store; in Tifton, the lowest reported price was $3.14 per gallon at a retailer on U.S. 82 West, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com.
Valdosta was tied with Warner Robins for the eighth-lowest average price for gasoline Friday out of the 15 Georgia markets monitored by the auto club: above Rome, Dalton, Columbus, Catoosa, Augusta and Albany but below Savannah, Macon, Hinesville, Gainesville, Brunswick, Atlanta and Athens.
Nationally, the average price of gasoline Friday was $3.52 per gallon, up two cents in a week, while Georgia’s average of $3.35 was down a penny in the same time, AAA said.
“Some of the uptick in gasoline prices may be due to a reported storm-related outage at the ExxonMobil refinery in Joliet, Illinois. That’s contributing to higher pump prices in the upper Midwest,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “Meanwhile, oil prices have fallen quite a bit lately. In April, a barrel of oil was in the upper $80s, but today, it is $10 a barrel cheaper. That might mitigate any upward pressure on pump prices.”
In Friday’s market action, U.S. benchmark crude oil rose 15 cents to $78.43 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Brent crude, the international standard, also was up 15 cents, at $81.54 per barrel.
