- School superintendent Natalie Gore and board of education chair Jonathan Jones, alongside the rest of the board members, were happy to present Kim Bruce with a Beyond the T Award for assisting a parent in need.
TIFTON – Members of the Tift County Schools Board of Education praised a faculty member for going above and beyond at the board’s most recent meeting.
Kim Bruce, assistant director of special education for Tift County Schools, received a Beyond the T Award at the Aug. 8 board meeting as thanks for her doing everything she could to assist a parent in a wheelchair during a recent parent-teacher night at G.O. Bailey Elementary.

Dana Spurlin, chief information officer, explained that when this parent’s wheelchair became stuck and immovable as they were preparing to leave the event, Bruce had contacted her husband to bring her a special tool, which she used to remove the arm of the chair, dislodge it, then reattach it once it could be easily moved again.
“It could have been an embarrassing moment for the parent and the child,” Spurlin recited from the nomination that had earned Bruce the award. “But with Kim’s quick thinking and her kindness, the parent was able to be on her way without embarrassment.”
Spurlin also informed those in attendance of the meeting that the Tift County Schools website had a designated section for nominating staff and faculty members for the Beyond the T Award, which can be found on the site’s main page.
