ATLANTA — Tift County’s hot softball start is getting statewide notice. Score Atlanta listed the Lady Devils as Class 6A’s No. 9 team in its initial rankings Thursday.

Tift is 6-2 for the season, both losses by one run. One of the teams who has beaten them is Lanier County, the No. 1 school in Class A Divi. II. Lanier won a 2-1 battle in Lakeland Aug. 12.

The Lady Devils have wins over Cook, Class 2A’s No. 5 team; LaGrange, who is No. 5 in 3A, and Emanuel County Institute, the No. 8 team in Class A Div. II.

Tift is the only non-Metro Atlanta team ranked in Class 6A. Their next game is Aug. 27 at home against Lowndes, which is also the first Region 1-6A contest of the year.
