NASHVILLE — Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting with a state trooper in Berrien County Monday.

A Georgia State Patrol trooper made a traffic stop for speeding on a 53-year-old Berrien County man on Allenville Road, according to a statement from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and another statement from the patrol.

The driver refused to stop and a chase began. The trooper used a PIT maneuver and tried to get the driver out of the car, the GBI statement said.

The driver drove toward the trooper and the trooper fired at the car; the driver turned the car down a dirt road into the yard of a private home where he crashed into a tree, the statement said.

The trooper tased the driver while trying to get him out of the car. The driver was not injured but was checked out by EMTs and taken to a local hospital.

The driver has been jailed on charges of felony fleeing, reckless driving, speeding, open container, DUI, misdemeanor obstruction, seat belt and failure to maintain lane, said Berrien County Sheriff Ray Paulk.

The GBI is investigating the incident.
