TIFTON — Council members are reapproaching a request to develop an outreach center that was turned down last year.

During its Sep. 3 meeting, city council discussed an application from councilman Lester Cromer to rezone property on Tifton-Eldorado Road from Residential 8 and Mixed Residential to Residential Professional for the purpose of creating an outreach center in the area.

Cromer had initially submitted this request last October under the plan of rezoning the needed property to General Business. However, city council ultimately denied the application the following month, concerned the zoning classification would allow far too many developments to be set up in that area.

Loretta Hylton, planning and zoning administrator, reported that following this denial, Cromer had been required to wait a minimum of six months before being allowed to submit the application again.

Hylton also stated that the Planning and Zoning had been much more pleased with the new zoning classification, and had recommended approval at their last meeting.

City council members will discuss and vote on the proposal at their Sep. 16 meeting.
