TIFTON — Tift County’s return to its Region 1-6A softball schedule got off to a tough start Tuesday with Richmond Hill winning a 6-1 contest.

Lily Robinson struck out 11 for Tift, which fell to 3-2 in region play. Richmond Hill is now 1-3.

Though the Lady Wildcats went up 2-0 in the third inning, neither team had a hit until the fourth, when Tift scored its lone run.

Riley Williams dropped in a hit to centerfield and with one out, Robinson sent a liner through the box. Marlee Veazey was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Ella Bruce grounded out to short to drive in Williams.

Williams and Robinson both reached in the sixth, but the Lady Devils weren’t able to score. It was nearly a scary moment for Williams, when a wild throw to first off a grounder ticked off Williams’ helmet. She stayed in the game. Robinson’s second hit was also blistered.

Miscues did most of the damage for Richmond Hill.

With two outs in the third, Aubrey Ragins and Nani Auld earned back-to-back walks. An errant throw on a double steal scored Ragins, then a pitch got away for Audl to come home.

Ragins had the Lady ‘Cats’ first hit in the sixth, a single. She stole second before scoring on a single by Ashella Matias.

Three plated in the seventh. Ainsley Washington, Maggie Jenkins and Lennon Monaco opened the frame with hits. Errors saw all of them come around to put the game away.

Adriana Williams fanned six for the visitors in the circle.

Tift was scheduled to visit Richmond Hill Wednesday for the return doubleheader. The games were initially to be Thursday, but were moved up because of the chances of inclement weather.

The Lady Devils will next be home Tuesday against Valdosta. This group of Lady Wildcats are 0-5 in the region following a doubleheader sweep by Colquitt County on Tuesday. Both were run-rule games.
