ABAC competes in pair of cross country meets

TIFTON — Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College now has two cross country races under their belt as an NAIA school.
ABAC debuted at Valdosta State’s Border Clash Sept. 6, then traveled last Friday to the University of North Georgia’s invitational.

The Stallions placed fourth at VSU and sixth at UNG.
Canaan Ponce gave ABAC its first ever top-10 as a four-year school, seventh at VSU in 27:27. Alec Stapp gave them two in the top 20, placing 19th in 28:45.
Canyon Crawford was 22nd, with Alex Ayala 25th, Sergio Martinez 26th and Michael Romeo 30th. Mac Raley finished as well for ABAC.
Oglethorpe University won the latter event. The Stormy Petrels had five of the top six runners. Ponce was ABAC’s top runner, placing 25th overall with a time of 29:44, according to official results. Stapp was 29th, with Martinez 35th.
Ayala, Crawford, Romeo and Raley completed the lineup.
Yarley Zongua was the Fillies’ fastest runner at both events. She completed the UNG course in 25:17 and VSU in 28:13.

ABAC did not have its full lineup available in Valdosta and only Laura Wiley and Sydney Walker ran with Zongua.
Mattie Jo Rigsby, Wiley, Jordanne Yunis and Lynley Towns all finished for the Fillies at North Georgia.
