TIFTON — The joint effort from Paulk Vineyards and the Downtown Development Authority to bring a wine lounge to Tifton has been approved by the city council.

Council members voted unanimously at their Sept. 16 meeting to grant a conditional use permit to the DDA to allow them and Paulk to build a wine lounge and retail space in Downtown Tifton.

Development authority executive director Abby McLaren reported during the city council’s previous meeting that the development was estimated to raise the property value of the planned location, bring foot traffic into the city’s downtown area, and create jobs and potential new businesses for the city and its community.

Additionally, the establishment would take measures to ensure no minors would be served alcohol, but would still cater to younger patrons or those uninterested in alcohol through non-alcoholic juice.
