TIFTON — An altercation between a handful of Tift County High School students has resulted in one student being stabbed, school officials have said.
At around 10 a.m. today, several TCHS students began an altercation in the bathroom, which resulted in the stabbing of one of the students involved. The school was immediately placed on lockdown to ensure the safety of both students and staff, and emergency medical services were called to the scene to tend to the injured students.
TCHS parents were informed of the lockdown via email and the school system’s call out system, and following the lockdown being lifted at approximately 11:45 a.m., parents were once again notified the school had resumed operations and were given the option to check their child out of school if they so desired.
Procedures have been put in place at the high school to minimize student movement through the building for the remainder of the day.
School officials have confirmed that the suspect is also a TCHS student, that they have been placed in custody, and that the weapon involved has been confiscated.
They also reported that no other students had been injured during the incident, but had no further information regarding the condition of the injured student.
