TIFTON — Students return to school in Tift County Thursday, one week after classes were last held.

Tift Schools announced the return Wednesday morning, praising the community for their support during the week away because of Hurricane Helene.

“Thank you to our parents and community for your patience and support during this time,” said Tift County Schools on social media. “We look forward to having our students back in our schools to resume instruction and continue working toward increased achievement for the school year.”

Faculty and staff were asked to return Wednesday.

There will be some changes in buses Thursday.

“Our transportation team is working to develop new bus stops for our students who live off of dirt roads that have been washed out and are not passable,” Tift Schools said. “Please be patient with our transportation team as they work to navigate continued road closures.”
