Undefeated Blazers return to the road at North Greenville

VALDOSTA — Undefeated and No. 3 Valdosta State (5-0) returns to the road Saturday to face the North Greenville Trailblazers (2-2) at Tigerville, South Carolina. Game time is 3 p.m.
VSU continued rolling when it returned to action last week after Hurricane Helene with a 59-6 victory over Shorter. The Blazers outgained Shorter 557-195 in yardage and put up 28 first downs to the Hawks’ nine.

Quarterback Sammy Edwards and defensive back Larry Elder earned Gulf South Conference Player of the Week honors for their performances.
Elder shared Defensive Player of the Week with a game that included 2.5 sacks on his behalf and an interception. Edwards completed 19 of 29 passes for 348 yards and touchdowns and rushed for a score.
North Greenville is coming off a 38-21 victory over Benedict, their second straight win of the year, the other coming 29-7 over Mississippi College. Their Sept. 28 game against Shorter was canceled.
The Trailblazers put up 427 yards of total offense versus Benedict, 387 passing. QB Dylan Ramirez completed 13 of 17 attempts for 377 and two touchdowns, both to Ahmari Coats, who had an incredible three catches for 182 yards. Cameron Walker added 97 receiving yards.
Ramirez was also North Greenville’s leading rusher with 20 yards. North Greenville’s defense forced two fumbles. James Wells had 1.5 sacks.
Edwards has thrown for 1,348 yards in five games this season, racking up 13 touchdowns. No Blazer QB has been intercepted this year. Rodney Bullard has 378 receiving yards to lead the team, also leading with five touchdowns. Graeson Malashevich has the most receptions at 23, with 327 yards and four scores. Tyler Ajiero has been a fantastic third option, two touchdowns on nine grabs for 215 yards.

Elder’s 18 solo stops are most for the defense. Elder, Caden Campolieti and Jemarrlowe Sykes all share team lead with 2.5 sacks each. Dav’Juan Dezeme has picked off two passes.
Valdosta State leads the all-time series with North Greenville 5-0. They won last year at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium, 28-3. In their last appearance at Tigerville in 2022, the Blazers won 58-37.
After spending the last month on the road, VSU will finally play another home game, specifically homecoming Oct. 19 against Mississippi College. Kickoff is currently set for 3 p.m.
