Tiftarea Panthers take lead in 3-3A

HOMASVILLE — Tiftarea Academy is now in sole possession of first place in District 3-3A after a 35-14 win at Brookwood School Friday night.

At 2-0, Tiftarea is the only undefeated team in the district. Valwood lost Friday to Deerfield-Windsor, 27-6. The Panthers won their region opener over Deerfield.

The Panthers scored 14 points in the first quarter and led 20-7 at intermission.

J.R. Walker got an early touchdown for the Panthers. Harrison Powell’s kick put them ahead 7-0. Jackson Parrish helped keep it that way with an interception.

Walker went over again on a short run at the end of the opening frame and the Panthers were ahead 14-0.

Brookwood scored three minutes into the second.

Parrish showed his skills on offense, picking up a fisrt down at the 11 on a catch from Walker. Their third touchdown came when Walker vaulted the pile in the end zone.

Walker and Caden Grier had second half scores.

With the Panthers averaging nearly eight yards per carry, Walker did not have to attempt many passes. He was 5-of-11 for 64 yards. Case Jones came in late and completed his only attempt for seven yards.

Tiftarea’s defense feasted, sacking the Warriors six times. Grier had two of these. Temond Marcus, Jack Brand, Brody Seagraves and Brad Ponder had the others.

Grier had 83 yards rushing and a score. Walker ran 16 times for 138 yards. He had four touchdowns.

Tiftarea will travel to Terrell Academy next week before finishing the regular season at home against Valwood.
