TIFTON — Tift County Lady Devils Lily Robinson and Riley Williams were both named to the Region 1-6A All-Region team recently.

Tift, which qualified for the state tournament this season, won 18 games, their most in a decade.

Robinson was one of four pitchers named to the first team. GameChanger stats show she struck out a team-best 154 hitters in 125 1/3 innings and earned 11 victories.

She was also a fantastic hitter for the Lady Devils, sporting a .427 average, scoring 21 runs while driving in 18. She slugged three homers and had 18 extra-base hits total.

A first team pick as a utility player, Williams was often the straw that stirred the drink for Tift County.  She hit .390 while crossing the plate 18 times. Williams had four doubles.

Three more Lady Devils were named second team All-Region, Ella Bruce, Cora Beth McCrary and Marlee Veazey.

A freshman, Veazey drove in a team-high 23 runs and was second by scoring 27 times. Veazey’s .412 average was second Robinson.

Bruce, whose power led to intentional walks by teams all over the state, had eight round-trippers. Her 28 runs scored led TCHS, which she combined with 24 RBIs.

McCrary did a bit of everything for the Lady Devils — a versatile fielder, outstanding at the plate and even won a game over Valdosta as a pitcher. McCrary scored 16 runs, drove in 14 and hit .351.

Region 1’s Player of the Year went to Colquitt County’s Peyton Arrington. Pitcher of the Year was earned by Adriana Williams of Richmond Hill.

Former Lady Devils leader Taylor Barber earned Coach of the Year by guiding Colquitt to the region championship.
