Student’s treatment sparks criminal investigation

TIFTON — Authorities have launched a criminal investigation into the reported “inappropriate treatment” of a student by two Northeast Middle School staff members, a statement from Tift County Schools said.
The incident in question took place Nov. 5, and the school’s resource officer reported it to the administration, the statement said.
The school system said staff members are placed on administrative leave when a human resources team investigates these kinds of allegations. When a staff member is accused of inappropriate treatment of a child, the procedure is to notify the Department of Family and Children Services and law enforcement.
