TIFTON — Members of the Tift County Schools Board of Education honored their faculty at their most recent meeting in the wake of their work to dramatically raise the math scores of their schools.
The teachers of Len Lastinger Elementary and the Algebra I teachers of both Eighth Street and Northeast Middle School received congratulations the evening of Nov. 14 for the significant increase to the score of their schools in the math portions of their end of grade tests.
Dana Spurlin, chief information officer for Tift County Schools, stated that Len Lastinger had seen a 33 point increase in the math portion of their 5th Grade Georgia Milestones end of grade exams.
Likewise, Algebra Achievement scores on the Georgia Milestones exam revealed Eighth Street had risen by 9 points and Northeast by 49.
Spurlin reported that all three schools had received praise and recognition from Richard Woods, the state school superintendent, and had been presented with a “Master of Mathematics” banner to display in their halls.
The teachers of each school responsible for the uptick in scores were also given awards by the county board of education as further praise for their hard work and accomplishment.
