TIFTON — The Tift County Board of Education offered fond farewells and endless gratitude to retiring booster club president George Woods during their Nov. 14 meeting.
Tift County Schools chief information officer Dana Spurlin announced during the board’s most recent meeting that the nine-year head of the Blue Devil Brigade Booster program had announced he would be stepping down from the position.
Spurlin noted that Woods had dedicated countless hours of his time and energy to the program, not only helping out on game day, but working on restocking, setup and closing, assembling teams of volunteers, and supporting band members and faculty on and off the field. She remarked that whoever would be stepping in to fill Woods’s shoes would find quite a large pair awaiting them.
School superintendent Natalie Gore also praised Woods’s dedication, reporting that even three years after his own children had left the band program, he had still given his all to the Booster program. She was honored to present Woods with a Beyond the T Award as a sign of gratitude for his years of service and hard work.
