TIFTON — The Tift County Board of Education had several recognitions Monday night at its combined regular board meeting and work session.

Brynna Burke is not only a member of the 19-member Tift County High Student Advisory Council, but is also a member of the State School Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. Burke is the only local student to serve on the state council.

Two TCHS students were part of the Governor’s Honors Program over the summer. James Wise represented Tift in agricultural research, biotechnology and science; and Theo Cash in communicative arts.

After recognizing students, Annette Brown, Teacher of the Year at J.T. Reddick Elementary, was presented with the Beyond the T award.

Dana Spurlin said Brown had taken girls at J.T. Reddick under her wing. She helps make sure their hair is styled, including purchasing products to help with her own money. “It makes a huge difference to them,” said Spurlin.
