TIFTON — The city of Tifton is taking steps to improve its water main system in preparation for the upcoming LMIG resurfacing projects.
Members of the city council agreed to enlist contractor RPI Underground to perform maintenance and upgrades for the city’s water main during their Dec. 16 meeting.
Adam Cobb, division manager of utilities for the city, reported at the previous meeting that prior to the city’s annual road resurfacing work through the Local Maintenance Improvement Grant, the public works department examines the water infrastructure underneath those roads to identify any fixes or improvements, so as to handle those projects ahead of the LMIG work instead of digging up the roads to repair the piping at a later time.
RPI Underground had offered the lowest bid for the job at $500,762.50, Cobb said, prompting him to recommend the contractor for the work and the council to award the contract for the project to them.
Cobb was also proud to report at the city’s previous meeting that the City of Tifton, in conjunction with Tift County, had been awarded the Consumer Confidence Report for Large Ground Water System by the Georgia Association of Water Professionals, denoting the Tiftarea as sporting one of the best water supplies in the state.
