TIFTON — The Tiftarea YMCA gave back to the community Saturday, Dec. 14, at is annual Y-Christmas, with many boys and girls getting an early holiday celebration.

Tiftarea YMCA Sports Coordinator Seth Bishoff, who headed up this year’s event, said 124 children were served.

Each basket contains essential items, such as clothing. In addition, they have a few wishes granted from a list to total about $125-150 per basket. Popular for the wish items this year, said Bishoff, were superheroes, dolls, Bluey, Cocomelon and sports items, such as footballs.

Kids’ Christmas lists are almost always filled with toys and Y-Christmas delivers a few wish items each year. One young man, however, valued other things. One young man picked up the blanket in his basket first, holding it before he checked to see what else he had.

“It’s always good to get to watch (their reactions),” said Bishoff. One child received a football. “He didn’t put it down,” Bishoff said. Another kept feelings in check until the basket went into the car. Then, they began savoring everything, he said.

For those who missed Y-Christmas, but still want to donate, Bishoff said the YMCA’s annual campaign is going on now. In addition, the Y is gearing for its annual Polar Bear Plunge, which raises money for several local charities.
