Tiftarea Panthers win over Southland

CHULA — Tiftarea Academy split series Monday and Tuesday, setting up big games Friday against Brookwood School.
Tiftarea’s Panthers improved to 8-1 after non-district wins against Southwest Georgia Academy and Southland Academy. They won the former, 56-52, in Damascus, and beat Southland 55-49 in Chula Tuesday behind 19 points from Elijah Smith and 12 from J.R. Walker.
The Lady Panthers fell twice 33-26 to Southland and 71-40 to SGA.
Brookwood’s Lady Warriors have an 11-3 record after beating Valwood in their latest outing 51-15. The Warriors are one of the GIAA’s best this season at 14-1. Recently, Brookwood beat Deerfield-Windsor 50-24 and Valwood 60-37.
