TIFTON — County commissioners are working to update the lighting for the county’s radio communications tower.
The strobe lights on the tower, which were installed in the 1980s, are set to be replaced and updated with LED lighting, along with new wiring for the tower, through a unanimous decision made by the county board of commissioners Jan. 13.
County manager Jim Carter reported that the strobe lighting was not functioning properly and was in need of replacement, recommending LED for its longevity and energy efficiency.
He reported that Mobile Communications, the telecommunications provider that manages the towers of Tift County, had estimated the replacement job would total around $18,750, which Carter expected could be mostly if not entirely covered by insurance proceeds, with the county’s SPLOST 6 funds paying for any other expenses.
